MAU, WAU, DAU in a Telegram Bot and Mini App: What They Are and How Graspil Calculates Them

MAU, WAU and DAU are the basic metrics of user activity. Here’s what they mean and what’s specific about how Graspil calculates them.

What MAU, WAU and DAU are

• DAU (Daily Active Users) — the number of unique users who took at least one action in a day.
• WAU (Weekly Active Users) — the same, but over the last 7 days.
• MAU (Monthly Active Users) — the same, but over the last 30 days.

These metrics show how many people actually use your bot or Mini App, not just how many once launched it.

How MAU in Graspil differs from the “usual” MAU in Telegram bots

The key difference is what counts as “activity”. By default, the MAU report in Graspil only counts the user’s own actions (incoming events): messages, button taps, opening the Mini App, and so on.

Outgoing events — messages the bot itself sends to a user (broadcasts, notifications, replies) — are not counted in this report by default. If a user once launched the bot and forgot about it, and the bot keeps sending them messages, that user won’t be counted toward MAU unless they react themselves.

If you need it, you can build a custom report that also counts outgoing events — using the report builder with the right event and aggregation.

This is also the loophole often used to inflate MAU in Telegram: if a user who was simply sent a message counts as active, any bot with a database of previously added users can artificially “revive” its MAU with a single monthly broadcast. In Graspil, that trick doesn’t work.

MAU/WAU/DAU is a rolling metric

In Graspil, MAU/WAU/DAU isn’t calculated for a calendar month or week — it’s a rolling window. For each day on the chart, the system takes the unique active users over the previous 30 (MAU), 7 (WAU), or 1 (DAU) days relative to that date. This gives an up-to-date picture for every single day, not just at the end of the month.

The same logic applies to both the bot and the Mini App — you can build a report based on bot events or on Mini App sessions.
